Foxboro Village Streetlighting

Posted in: Foxboro Village
What are your thoughts on streetlights for Foxboro?

The City of Columbus plans to have lights in every neighborhood by 2020. However they are starting in central city and working outward, leaving us near the end of the list.

With 60% neighborhood support we can petition to advance the process. The cost could be built into property taxes over 10 years. The increase is estimated to be $8 to $12 a month.

We would benefit by increased property value, appearance of the neighborhood, and making our streets brighter therefore safer.

Foxboro Village Streetlighting

$8 to 12 a month is a relatively small price to pay for walkability, aesthetic and safety improvements for our neighborhood. From what the City has told me, Foxboro would have to be part of a larger improvement area. I would also include low level lighting for the walking path around the Billingsley Road retention basin and work with the Don Casto Organization (Glenmuir Apartments)for lights along Billingsley. Perhaps the auto repair and car dealers would go along with lighting and even an asphalt path along that part of Billingsley Road. We can enroll Summerwood, which has an active civic association, and assist the Bradenton Meadows area (Stanburn Road to Warrington Way, Sawbury Blvd. to Hard Road) to organize civically and be part of the discussions. If there isn't an interest there, then we can cut them out of the improvement area. Discussions could also take place with Dunsworth Village to see if there is any interest there. We need to enlarge our vision and outreach to maintain and improve our neighborhood. With Foxboro situated in the middle of the Billingsley / Hard and Sawmill / Smoky Row corridor, we are uniquely positioned to be catalysts to improve the greater area. In partnership with Summerwood Civic Association (and perhaps other subdivisions, apts.,commercial entities, etc.), we have the leadership to make this happen and have the city take notice of our desire to bring lighting to our area well before the year 2020. I invite additional responses and persepectives, both pro and con. It is important that we continue to dialogue and have a mission and vision in advancing our neighborhood and protecting our property values and investment.
What style will the lights be?

Do we have any choice in what the streetlights will look like? And what kind of lighting it will provide?
In agreement

The extra per month fee is not much to ask for. It does appear to be very dark in the neighborhood which may contribute to the increased occurences of vandalism.
