I like the idea of the safe houses. It is very much needed.  We have already encountered teens going to neighbors in the event of domestic disturbances.  Alot go directly to the school and hang out on the roof.

What other neighborhood does this?  Do you have additional information?

The closest community I'm aware of is Morrisdale Estates in Euless,  my daughters boyfriend lives there and I've contacted them for information.  The City of Plano also sponsors the program.  I know the process is very simple, you have to contact and try and partner with local law enforcement, and schools which shouldn'tbe a problem I know Paul McCollum would be thrilled, and then you contact McGruff House and they willl send you a packet.  The safe houses will have a McGruff House sign in the window.  In the past the safe houses had to have a criminal history on all the adults in the house and there is a brief training program and nominal fees for the signs.  It's a really neat program.

I know growing up In Grayson County my home town of Sherman had this program.  It was based out of the school.  Every safe house was given a window cling of a green hand.  Not sure how the houses became safe houses. I will have to ask my mom, we were a safe house.  But as someone who used the program when she had a biking accident.  I would like to be one of the first houses on board for this program if we can get it started.

The victim was his granddaughter, my children went to school with her and my understanding at the time the "sentence" was issued was that he had no priors and it was a family member and not a stranger.

I knew who the victim was but didn't want to disclose it for her privacy.  I am sure she's been through enough with what happened.  It wasn't her fault so I didn't want to publicize who had been victimized.
