Farley Neighborhood

Fall 2002 Newsletter & Bulletins

Oct 26, 2002

CRIME WATCH REPORT: We are happy to report we have seen a reduction already in the incident rate
in our neighborhood. Thanks to all of you for your support of our efforts to reduce vandalism, suspected drug and or gang activity. We have been able to get more and quicker responses to our calls to Marion County Sheriff?’s Dept. plus a couple of the problem locations have been vacated!! Letters and calls to rentalproperty landlords have been effective in evicting problem tenants and we have been supported by the
Sheriff?’s Dept. Thanks to all of you who have made this a personal goal as well as a neighborhood goal. If you have not received your Crime Watch Info, call Pat Wood-Crime Watch Dir. at 247-1962

FARLEY NEIGHBORHOOD WINDOW STICKERS
...OOOPS!... :( The original batch of stickers
are defective and have faded from yellow to white and lost the printing due to exposure to light.....we have free replacements available for you. We regret this happened , but we have new ones. You may call Nan at 247-0171 or email at: nannbill@iquest. New stickers can be picked up at your convenience at 6808 West16th Street (in Farley)

OFFICERS NEEDED FOR NEXT YEAR: The current board of directors will be leaving office in May
of next year (2003). We currently need 2 co-presidents , a secretary, and treasurer or secretary/treasurer combined. A computer, on line access, time to handle resident questions and attend some city-county meetings will be required for one of the co-presidents. Election will be held at our annual meeting in April or May of 2003. Please contact Nan at 247-0171 or email: nannbill@iquest.net. All officers will have support and assistance and training from current officers. Please consider volunteering for these openings.Without a board of directors, we cannot remain a Neighborhood Association.

MEMBERSHIP DUES: Membership dues payments are lagging behind this year. We know the
economic situation is affecting some of our residents, but we really need membership dues in order to keep operating. We are okay for this winter?’s snow removal (unless we have a really hard winter with many heavy snows) but with costs for insurance (required for associations), printing costs for news letters, flyers,
membership forms and envelopes, advertising costs for garage sales, sign maintenance and replacements increasing each season, we need dues paid by all of Farley?’s residents to keep going. Please send in your dues as soon as possible...........if you have already paid, encourage your neighbors to pay! We are
contacting rental property owners and requesting their payments. Most renters DO NOT PAY. If you have a rental unit in your section, please let me know the exact address . The assessor?’s office can provide the owner?’s name and address . We will follow up with a reminder letter regarding dues. Thanks for your help
in getting dues paid promptly!!! Send dues to: Farley Membership P.O. Box 51920 Indpls IN 46251

MEETING WITH DPW DIRECTOR B. LAWRENCE REGARDING CONNECTION TO INDPLS SANITARY SEWAGE SERVICE: The September 30th meeting went very well and we were able to present our request and had the support of all other neighborhood leaders. All were present to present a
united coalition to get this project up for consideration. We left the meeting feeling optimistically hopeful.
Ms. Lawrence state the information we provided would need careful research by DPW and would take some time to review before deciding if the project would be feasible. Many thanks to Steve Rupenthal who did an excellent job providing the technical details for the project. His presentation carried a big impact on our
meeting. We will let you know when we hear something from DPW.

NEWS FROM CITY COUNTY BUILDING: The Indianapolis Star printed an article in the ?“City-State?” section titled ?“Residents express wishes in concrete terms?”.....this article outline the wishes of neighborhood leaders from a survey mailed to them this summer. The overwhelming response showed most neighborhoods are experiencing the same problems as Farley. Speeding through residential areas, poor
street, curb and sidewalk maintenance, slow response to city code violation reports, more law enforcement patrols, and better sewers (storm and sanitary). If you would like to read this article, you can go to Star?’s web site at: www.indystar.com and click on News and then search by date and headline. Another story (on
the same date) about Street Lights can be accessed by clicking on News and then search by headline: "Streetlights desirable, but not for city budget?” This explains why we can?’t get more lighting.

SPEAKING OF BETTER STREETS: :) The good news is, 13th Street is now resurfaced and driving
13th St is no longer dangerous and detrimental to your car! We were promised repair of that street more than four years ago, but it took endless calls to The Department of Public Works (DPW) and calling everyone we could think of at City-County to register our complaints. When we were finally promised a DATE for 13th Street, we were told that Buick Drive would also be done... :( The bad news is....they didn?’t say when! Our Township Administrator says ?“Sorry, maybe next year. There is no money for
Buick Drive?” We are upset and feel badly for residents on Buick. We will keep badgering DPW by way of the Mayor?’s Action Center, the Wayne Twp. Council person, and the Township Administrator for a better answer. If you would like to become part of this effort, please call or send an email and ask for resurfacing.
Maybe we can put on some pressure to get the job done.

THANKS FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT AND HELP IN KEEPING FARLEY PROPERTY VALUES STABLE AND MAKING FARLEY A BETTER NEIGHBORHOOD. IT?’S WHERE WE LIVE .... KEEPING IT A SAFE AND PLEASANT PLACE FOR FAMILIES IS OUR GOAL.
