Helping Families Help Themselves

We are looking for local volunteer teams from civic groups, congregations, and businesses who have a desire to make a positive lasting impact in the San Antonio community.
These local teams will act as mentors for families moving form welfare to work. Examples of what you may do to aid the family in their move to self-sufficiency include: planning a budget, dealing with transportation and child care issues, finding affordable housing, preparing for job interviews, and identifying community resources. Most importantly, you will be providing support and encouragement to those with a difficult but rewarding road ahead of them.
We require a one year commitment but ask only a few hours out of every month for you to make a difference in someone's life.

Advisory Council

Family Pathfinders is also looking for anyone who is interested in joining the advisory council. Their role is to act as a sounding board for VISTA Volunteer plans, provide feedback to VISTA and project staff on progress, assist in recruiting Family Pathfinders team volunteers.

Certified Trainers

We are also looking for people interested in facilitating a four hour training for all members of volunteer teams. The certified trainer delivers the training using a standard curriculum provided by Family Pathfinders. In addition, the trainer creates an environment conducive to learning and team building. In the training, volunteer team members are introduced to welfare reform, Family Pathfinders, and basic skills to use with their partner family. Members should complete the training with knowledge of welfare reform, community resources and a feeling of competence to work with a family.
