Overview

The Eldridge Street Block Association is a citizen-based organization that is comprised of residents living on or around Eldrdige Street on New York City's Lower East Side. The group was formed in the Spring of 2005 in an effort to bring together neighborhood residents to maintain and improve the overall quality of life in the area.

Mission

The Association strives to foster a sense of community and encourage a spirit of cooperation, understanding and respect for the neighborhood. We are a diverse group of individuals who have united to ensure that our neighborhood continues to be a great place to live.

Goals

To ensure the neighborhood is a safe, secure place to live, work and raise a family:
-free of violent crime
-free of drugs
-free of vandolism
-free of excessive noise and disruptive behavior
-free of all gang activity

To maintain a clean, attractive neighborhood:
-free of graffiti
-free of litter and pollution

To improve the overall quality of life:
-maintaining clean, well-kept buildings
-maintaining sidewalks
-maintaining tree boxes

To develop and maintain an active voice in city government and the greater community, with emphasis on:
-support from police and public officials
-maitenance and improvement of local schools
-maintenance and improvement of services
-maintenance and improvement of parks & public spaces
-input/invovlement in new commercial and residential development
