#8. Better Services with Lower Property Taxes. With the City and County of Broomfield, all areas of Broomfield will receive better and more direct county government services at lower property taxes. Projections recently completed by the City of Broomfield show that the necessary mill levy for the combined City and County of Broomfield will be lower than originally estimated. This will result in property tax reductions for all areas of Broomfield and significant property tax reductions for residents that were in the Adams County of Broomfield.

#9. Innovation for More Effective Services. Have you ever wondered how much effective coordination and cooperation there is between city police departments and county human services departments. This is extremely important for the safety of our families. Police officers have many contacts with citizens on a wide variety of matters. So do the Human Services officials. If the Police Department and the Human Services Department are sharing information on an on-going basis, I believe that many of the problems we all have been witnessing could be prevented. Some examples. A group of teens is thinking about doing something tragic. A social worker is aware of it because he or she had visited the homes of several of the teenagers. The social worker could inform the police department and, together, the police and the social worker could talk with the teens, find out what the problem is, and work with the teens to resolve the problem before something tragic happens. Our teenagers need to know that we love and care about them. They need to know how important they are to us. They need to know we care about what they think. I believe we can begin to address these matters in ways that make sense and that are effective. But, it's going to take innovative and bold approaches. Approaches that a combined city and county can do.

#10. Possible Benefits for Other Cities and Counties. I believed that the Broomfield effort may have benefits for citizens in other cities and counties. Is this the form of local government that is needed to address the changing needs and multiple issues in our communities? Is this the form of local government that we all may need in the next millenium? If combining the efforts of various departments that have heretofore pretty much gone in their own direction produces significant positive results, we all stand to benefit. I believe the City and County of Broomfield deserves a chance.
Adrian, these are my thoughts why I believe the City and County of Broomfield will have substantial positive benefits for citizens.
