Parking Issue

Posted in: Chesterfield

Parking on Leeds Drive has just been stired up!  Looks like the association has taken it upon themselves to get the county involved to have the boats and RV's moved from this area as they are an eye soar.   I have no problem with them trying to clean up the area, but they have now created a bigger problem.  Now people have moved their boats and rv's to different parts of the neighborhood.  Blocking driveways, line of site at corners, etc.....  The association stated that they had multiple complaints about being able to see when driving down Leeds Drive.  I can understand this and agree that something needed to be done.  Now with no speed control on this street, the county has opened up the road for the young kids to drive even faster down this road.    I believe the association should have brought this up as a discussion prior to moving forward.  I think we have a bigger problem on our hands.    Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

As I understand the issue.  The primary concern was school bus pickup/drop off.  Basically it was a dangerous situation during those times.  All that really needed to be done was to simply make there be no parking during those times.  The times they have now are completely stupid.  The correct sign would be Mon - Fri during the bus times.

I also agree with the speeding problem now.  I have just moved from an area that had the same problem.  A nice wide road that just got no parking signs up.  Unfortunately the traffic control work that was done only resulted in worse conditions, forcing speeders closer to the sidewalks.  We have the same situation with Leeds now.  Nice wide main road that you can haul down.  Trailers make good traffic calming and we just lost that.  They also make a good barrier for those on the sidewalk if an accident were to occur. The trailers would help contain that to the street and help protect pedestrians on the sidewalk.  If I want scenery on my walk I will walk the trails or go to a park.  I do not need to look at the road and in people's windows along my route.

As it is now the parking signs are a joke.  There are unprosecuted violations constantly, they have caused the already crowded side roads to become more packed and have completely taken away any parking for family/friends to visit.  Super bowl Sunday?  Not in our neighborhood.  Most people in the neighborhood have two cars.  That fills the driveway.  Now how many people have a 3rd car for their kids?  How many people have a trailer?  What are they to do now that there is no room?  Pack up and leave?  I wish I could but I bet most people cannot afford to do that.

The purpose of a HOA is to protect the re-sell value of a home.  As a new buyer with a parking needs I settled on this area because I would have Leeds road.  Many other potential homes were turned down because of limited parking.  We spent 2 years looking for a home that would meet my parking needs and did not consider any homes no matter how nice that could not.  I truly believe that the crowded side roads that are nearly impossible to maneuver now will hurt resale way more than a main road with trailers on it. It irritates me to no end that I have moved into this area.  I cannot wait to get out.

Something defiantly needs to be done.  It is unfair to the trailer owners to now be forced into speeding hard earned money to store their trailers.  Chesterfield needs to provide parking for the trailers that have been uprooted.  There are several solutions but all would require compromise.

Coming into this community I knew that HOA were bad.  You pay money to get screwed.  However, we were moving right next to Leeds where a spot was available for the trailer I already had.  The rules allowed the trailer to be there.  Now only 2 months into the Chesterfield I have been screwed.  I would have never bought in this area had I known this would happen.  I would have bought in an area where I could enjoy my recreational activities and not be ridiculed for having a boat that I worked hard for and enjoy taking out whenever I can.  And to me my boat is a pretty, well maintained vessel that is not an eye sore.  I am sure that other trailer owners would be insulted to hear their trailers slandered.
