Proposed Alzheimers Facility

Somerford Place- Project proposed by Chesapeake Healthcare would be located on Magledt Road between Joppa and Britinay Ln. Includes 60+ bed, lock-down facility for the care of alzheimers patients (one story, 28,000 sq. ft. building) and eight single family homes to be located on Magledt Road.

Concerns Of Association

This facility is to be built as a lock down building. Future advances in medicine may render this facility obsolete. After which, this facility would be forced to admit potentially violent, drug abuse or mentally ill patients in order to continue to turn a profit. Among the other concerns cited by residents of the area: Decreased water pressure, increase in noise and traffic. The addition of eight single family homes along Magledt Road would only worsen traffic congestion.

The Alternative

The only viable alternative to the potential use of this property, would be to lobby the County and State for funds to purchase this property for open space.
