Somerford Place Update

On Thursday, April 20th., developers for the proposed assisted living facility known as Somerford Place which is planned for the property between Magledt and Joppa Roads contacted President Rupp with a compromise in the original site plans. Mr. Jay Hicks of Chesapeake Healthcare, stated that the seven homesites originally planned for inclusion along Magledt Road would be dropped from the project. In addition, Mr. Hicks promised additional landscaping and screening for this area.

President Rupp sees this as a major improvement to the original plans, sighting the decrease in traffic as opposed to the addition of these homes. "Personally, I would rather not see this property developed at all, the County has funds to spend on parks and open space for Perry Hall, why not on us? But if this property must be developed, this current proposal is far better than any so far".

The land originally planned for the seven homes, could be developed into a small park and tot lot and then donated back to the County in the name of the people of Carney for their use.
