Canyon North Neighborhood Association Mission Statement

To unite as neighbors to preserve the safety, beauty, and value of our homes, property and families.

The History of Canyon North

Canyon North, a subdivision in NW OKC, located near the South East corner of Hefner Road and Rockwell, was started in 1972. The history of the land dates back to Aug. 5, 1899 when it was homesteaded. In 1917 the land was purchased by the Talbot family and was handed down in their family through the years. In 1946, the land was deeded to Lloyd and Osa Mae Talbot, brother and sister. They resided in the original house on the property. The house sat near the area where currently there is a CVS Drug Store.

In 1972, the Canyon North Development Company which was headed by Robert E. Rickard, Sr. and Joseph C. Bynum, started purchasing the quarter section of land in partial sections. The land was developed in sections so the Talbots could reside in their home until the time came for the final section, where the home was located, to be purchased and developed. The Talbots purchased a home on Evergreen Canyon and lived there until they were well into their 90s. The main road into Canyon North off of Rockwell is named after the Talbot family who had lived and farm the land for 55 years. It is believed that the decendants of the Talbots are buried in the small cemetary that is located on the west side of Rockwell just across from Canyon North.

This land carries a long Oklahoma history and it took almost 26 years to develop and completely sell the final lots in the neighborhood, wherein, the Canyon North Development Company was dissolved.
