What other groups are affiliated with the American Legion?

The Ladies Auxiliary is open to any female relative of a service member who is eligible for the American Legion, whether that member belongs (or did belong) to the Legion or not.

The Sons of the American Legion (SAL) is open to male descendants of service members eligible for Legion membership.

What is the 40&8?

La Societe 40 Hommes et 8 Chevaux is the honor society of the American Legion. Legionnaires in good standing who have performed service to the American Legion may be invited to become a Voyageur Militare. The Society takes its name from the narrow gauge French Box Cars utilized in WWI. Each of these cars was stenciled with the capacity ?– 40 men or 8 horses.
