Health insurance fraud makes premiums more expensive

Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey warns that insurance fraud isn’t a victimless crime — it costs Americans more than $308 billion each year and adds about 20% to everyone’s premiums. Health insurance fraud alone accounts for over $100 billion annually through false claims, inflated billing and other deceptive practices.

Causey urges consumers to stay alert, review their Explanation of Benefits statements, and report any questionable charges to the N.C. Department of Insurance at 855-408-1212.
