I heard you the first time you said that and if you read my reply, I addressed that comment.  If you are really sincere about participating in Neighborhood Watch, you should contact a Neighborhood Area Captain.  Frankly, I know for certain that several people have unjustfiably complained about their Block Captain not trying to contact them.  One person in particular in the 100 block of Southampton made the same compalint and I know FOR CERTAIN that that particular Block Captain tried FOUR times to contact each resident and IN FACT left a printed notice with contac t information.

If you realy want to know who your Block Captain is, send your contact information to pajowm99@gmail.com or come by and see me.  More than likely you know where I live - in fact, I'd bet on it.  We can not get you information if you complain from the shadows.  Your block may be one of the five that does not haved a Block Captain and you could volunteer to fill that role.

I will contact the mayor to receive the information.  I completely understand the importance of keeping contact information private.

May I suggest that all block captains make an extra effort to reach out to neighbors that are not involved.  We have never received any information about the block watch.  In fact, we were not even aware that there were block captains until I stumbled across this site.  There may be neighbors that want to be involved and just need information.

I have read your posts and I have read the posts from the mayor and the Neighborhood Watch people in reply to your "complaint."  Your suggestion about block captains reaching out is full of it; how about you reaching out instead of complaining.  They can't contact you if they don't know ho you are - duh.  I can really understand that you "stumbled" across this site.

Thes people in Neighborhood Watch do what they do for no pay and very little thanks and they certainly don't need the bad-mouthing from people on the sidelines.  In early July, Mr. Bob Elliot and his wife printed and circulated notices to EVERY HOUSE IN BELLEMEADE about a meeting way back in July about Neighborhood Watc and I am willing to bet that you didn't attend that meeting.  A mere handfull of LEADERS stepped up to the plate and reorganized Neighborhood Watch, but it will not work unless people like you help instead of trying to make the Area and Block Captains look bad.

Are you going to be part of the problem orpart of the solution?  Game on ...

I've said it before and I'll say it again!  We need our OWN police patrol!  As nice as the neighborhood watch is; it has little affect.  I does notify residents After the Fact... but it doesn't protect, or detour crime.  If we had a constant police presence in the City of Bellemeade, it would detour crime, speeding, etc.  If police had been hired six months ago, these recent crimes may not have happened.   Criminals patrol, and find targets before acting on it.  If they see Police Patroling the area constantly, they are likely to move on...

I like your concern.

Private citizens can do nothing to change the desire of criminals.  But, there are things that we can do to keep our cars and homes from being likely easy targets.  That is the purpose of Neighborhood Watch, but it requires cooperation among residents; it requires residents looking out for each other. It requires accurate facts.

If I see people who do not live in Bellemeade loitering in Bellemeade, I can do two things through Neighborhood Watch.  First, I can call the police. I should be able to give them the description of the vehicle, the plate number, or even a picture of the vehicle and possibly the driver taken with my cell phone.  Second, I should notify my Block Captain immediately so he or she can pass that same information on to other residents.

There is strength in numbers; the larger the number of residents who have been alerted about that particular vehicle, the larger the odds are that more people will call the police when they see that same vehicle.  The more calls the police receive about that vehicle; the greater the police presence in Bellemeade.  That should help deter criminal activity in Bellemeade.

We can deter crime if we look strong.  If we look like food, we will be eaten.  The key to NW is lots of participation and timely reporting of DETAILED facts.
