The most recent Barristers Place Community newsletter referenced the Fairfax County law relating to loose pets. It stated: "It is the law that animals (including cats) are not allowed to run loose."
The Fairfax County leash law does not mention cats. What am I missing here? I've lived in Fairfax County my entire life and have never heard of anyone being ticketed for an off-leash cat. My friends in the FFX county police department know of no such regulation either.
A few years ago, there was a discussion in the Vienna newspaper about leashing cats but it never came to fruition. Cats were considered predatory by nature and so they were immune from leash laws. I know of no leash law for cats in the Town of Vienna or Fairfax County either.
