i posted the following to BHNA-announcements yesterday and it seemed likely it might engender some discussion, so i'm reposting it here
Jeff Scweinfest is a community activist whom i know from Tony Robinson's campaign.. as far as i know he is not spearheading this effort -- just letting people know about it.. he said it was fine to include his contact info, so if you want more info, you can contact him directly (or come to the meeting)

There's a city council meeting on June 16, Monday, to discuss the Gates development and potential zoning changes that would favor developers. As we all stressed throughout Tony [Robinson]'s run, these kinds of projects need to entail a community benefit that includes good wages for people working on the development, inviting socially responsible retailers to be future leaseholders, etc. Tony is asking people to attend this meeting to raise our concerns with the city council.
In order to prepare for the city council meeting, we're having a get-together at the DALF headquarters (at 10 Lakeside Lane (the Harlan St. exit off I-70 heading west) at 4 pm, Tuesday, June 10. Tony's inviting some of the people from the Campaign for Corporate Responsibility, who've been actively working on this issue for a while.
We'd like to get a good turnout on the 16th so people can address the city council directly. We want to let the local government know that there is a progressive movement that believes in participatory democracy and that government needs to be accountable to all its people -- not only big developers.
Thanks in advance for your support.
