Navigating the Quality of Life Explorer | Tuesday, April 18, 6 p.m.

This training introduces participants to the Quality of Life Explorer, an interactive dashboard that includes social, housing, economic, environmental, and safety data from Charlotte and Mecklenburg County. The Quality of Life Explorer has over 80 variables providing information on housing, household income, health, education, crime rates, jobs, community engagement, and other fields. Maps, trend information, tables, and summary reports are available for over 400 neighborhood areas.

Join us to learn how to use the Quality of Life Explorer (http://mcmap.org/qol/) as a data source to inform organizational strategic planning, grant writing, and setting goals for neighborhood organizations.

This workshop will take place via Zoom. Registration is required. Online and call-in access instructions will be emailed to registered participants prior to the workshop.


Attend a Neighborhood Matching Grant Pre-Application Workshop To Learn How Your Neighborhood Can Receive Up To $25k!

The Neighborhood Matching Grants Program (NMG) awards up to $25,000 to eligible neighborhood-based organizations to complete projects including art, beautification, signage, festivals, sustainability, safety improvements, community gardens, recreational features and more! Applications are accepted March 1, June 1, and September 1, annually. Organizations match funds received with at least 50% volunteer labor, the remaining match may be in the form of more volunteer labor, cash, or in-kind donations (equipment, supplies, professional services, etc.).

 

Participation in a pre-application workshop is required. To get started, register to attend a workshop in-person or online via Zoom.

Free Fire Extinguisher Training for the Community! 

The Charlotte Fire Department Fire & Life Safety Education division offers free fire extinguisher training for city of Charlotte residents and businesses to prepare them for fire emergencies. The primary goal of the fire extinguisher training is to educate citizens on proper fire evacuation procedures. The program will familiarize residents with the general principles of fire safety, fire extinguisher use and the hazards involved with incipient stage firefighting.

 

*This program is not a live fire training* 

 

Registration is required. Complete one registration per person.

Federal Infrastructure Funding for Vision Zero and Charlotte DOT: A Vision Zero Lunch and Learn Workshop

Join us for a fireside chat with Angela Berry, Traffic Safety and Vision Zero Program Manager, to learn about the specific projects or initiatives the Charlotte Department of Transportation is planning to invest in with recent federal infrastructure funding. Join us from noon to 1 p.m. on April 21. The meeting will be hosted virtually. This workshop is part of a Lunch and Learn Series created to enhance learning across disciplines and network through the topic of transportation.

2023 Property Tax Resource Fair | Saturday, April 15, 9 - 11 a.m.

The County's Assessors Office will be on-hand to speak with residents about their new property values and provide resources for qualifying owners. Residents are encouraged to review the informal review and formal appeal criteria at Reval.MeckNC.gov prior to attending the event.

The event will take place Saturday, April 15, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Eastway Regional Recreation Center - 3150 Eastway Park Dr., Charlotte, NC 28213.

This workshop explores various recruitment, communication, and outreach strategies to help increase participation, involvement and engagement in neighborhood organizations. Learn the concepts and principles of neighborhood group and community organization development, and how to put those concepts into practice in your neighborhood.
