ARROWHEAD'S NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH PROGRAM sprang from the encouragement of a SAFFE Officer to a few neighbors who had gathered on Flying & Flaming Arrow for National Night Out in 1999.

With neighbors volunteering and rotating the position, each street is represented by a BLOCK CAPTAIN. We are very thankful for these neighbors' time and devotion to our neighborhood.

Our focus is for NEW NEIGHBORS to feel welcomed to their new community and we greet them with a welcome packet regarding our neighborhood and a small gift. These new neighbors then have a contact person in their new surroundings.

We encourage neighbors to be included in our NEIGHBORHOOD DIRECTORY, or at least give their block captains pertinent phone numbers in the case of an emergency to their family or home. The SAPD encourages neighborhoods to have a directory.

Neighborhood Watch hosts the ANNUAL 4th of JULY PARADE with our firemen from Station #46. Kids, adults and (friendly) pets meet with their decorated bikes, wagons, etc., receive fire safety tips from the firemen and follow the fire truck around the block. It's wonderful to see the neighborhood unity on the 4th of July before everyone goes their separate ways.

The block captains also coordinate with their street a block party for NATIONAL NIGHT OUT. The block party can be as simple or grand as each street decides they want it to be. "NNO has proven to be an effective, inexpensive & enjoyable program to promote neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships in our fight foir a safer nation." We also have a raffle at this time to keep our Neighborhood Watch program on-going throughout the year, and appreciate the participants.
