The Apple Meadows subdivision was built in the early 1970's. It consists of 476 modest single-family homes, with one and two-car garages and good-sized lots. The subdivision is built in a quiet rural area of unincorporated Jefferson County, about four miles North of Golden and about one-half mile East of Highway 93. It is surrounded by open spaces, horse properties, and cattle grazing lands, and many homes have excellent views of North Table Mountain to the South and the Hogback to the West of Highway 93. The rural atmosphere and openness of the area are primary reasons many residents have chosen to live in this area.

Van Bibber Creek flows from the foothills to the West through the middle of the subdivision in a pleasant park area that has grassy open areas, a ball field, tennis, volleyball and basketball courts, and a playground. The spaces around the subdivision are frequented by deer, coyotes, raptors (including bald eagles), and even mountain lions. Just to the East of the subdivision is an old ranch (Long Lake Ranch) which served as a stage stop in the days of the stagecoaches.

The subdivision is served by the Fairmount Fire Protection District, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department, and the North Table Mountain Water and Sanitation District.
