Who Are We?

The Abbott-Downing Neighborhood Association (ADNA) was formed on a task force strategy of the Rumford School Revitalization Project. The revitalization project was a joint effort between the City of Concord and neighborhood residents to help identify the issues and problems that confront this neighborhood. During the public process neighborhood residents indicated that one of the things lacking was neighborhood pride. One of the goals established by the residents included the formation of a "Neighborhood Association to organize proactively promoting community pride." A task force comprised of residents in the neighborhood was established to help strategize ways to effectively achieve this neighborhood goal. The result is the creation of the Abbott-Downing Neighborhood Association.

ADNA GOALS

• Enhance community pride and connectedness in the neighborhood
• Provide an open process by which all neighborhood members can be involved; including residents and business owners
• Review and recommend any action, policy or plan to the city council and any city agency, commission or board on matters concerning our neighborhood
• Encourage neighborhood revitalization through tree planting, road repair, and housing rehab

We Need Your Membership

ADNA is a non-profit organization that chooses to serve the needs of our neighborhood and its residents. There are no membership dues or fees; ADNA will receive funding from voluntary contributions and fundraising activities. Regular meetings are held monthly. Special meetings are held as necessary and will be posted through media sources. ADNA cannot be successful without your help.

To Become a Member:

• Live within or operate a business in the area between Pleasant and West Streets and South Main and South Spring Streets
• Be 18 years or older
• Be interested in being involved and/or informed about neighborhood happenings

What Do We Do?

The main purpose of ADNA is to enhance community pride and connectedness in the neighborhood. ADNA hopes to host events like Neighborhood Festivals & Pot Luck Suppoers along with sponsoring educational meetings such as political forums and housing workshops. Other events include annual tree planting, neighborhood beautification and an annual membership drive.

• Encourage neighborhood revitalization through tree planting, road repair and housing rehabilitation

Since our formation in January 2003 we:

• Hosted a Community Forum to educate the residents about the candidates who were running for the Ward 6 seat and encouraged people to vote


• Co-sponsored a Housing Rahabilitation Workshop with the city and CATCH


• Teamed with Groundwork Concord to coordinate tree planting in the spring


• Volunteered and exhibited at the Concord 20/20 River Jamboree


• Received our first grant from the City of Concord to complete the application process to become a 5013c community/educational non-profit organization
