Beginning History of the 500 Decatur Street Block Association

The 500 Decatur Street Block Association, which is located between Ralph and Howard Avenues, was organized July 21, 1945. The Founding Members of the Block Association were Mr. DeVeaux Coleman, Mrs. Mazle Drakes, Mrs. Addie Floyd, Mrs. Mabel Franklin, Mr. John Graves, Rev. Eddie Jacobs, Mr. James Leslie, Sr., Mrs. Hattie Leslie, Mrs. Martha Lewis, Mr. Herbert Miller, Mrs. Bernice Salter, Mr. Sammy Salter, Mr. Wadell and Mrs. Josephine Wilson.

Our First Block Association President

The First President of the Block Association was Mr. Sammy Salter who was elected at the July 21, 1945 meeting, and thus began the unforgettable legacy of the 500 Decatur Street Block Association.

Our Current Block Association President

Pamela M. Junior is the current President of the Block Assocation. She has held this position since 1997.
