Buckingham Neighborhood

  • The Buckingham  neighborhood is located in central Arlington County, Virginia.  Much of the neighborhood is within a mile of the Ballston Metro Station.
  • N. Glebe Road, N. Carlin Springs Road and Arlington Blvd. (U.S. Route 50) border the neighborhood.  N. George Mason Drive and N. Pershing Road travel through the neighborhood.
  • Housing includes condominiums, town houses, rental apartments (both market-rate and affordable units), and a small number of detached single-family homes. The neighborhood contains two affordable housing facilities for senior citizens (Culpepper Garden and The Carlin) and one public park (Henry Wright Park).
  • The majority of Buckingham businesses are located along N. Glebe Road, with Buckingham’s heaviest business concentration at the intersection of N. Pershing Drive and N. Glebe Road.
  • A portion of the Buckingham Historic District is within the neighborhood.  The historic district, largely constructed during the late 1930s, contains a number of garden apartment buildings that border rectangular courtyards that are open at one end. When originally constructed, Buckingham’s buildings comprised one of the largest garden apartment complexes in the United States.  However, neighborhood redevelopment during the early 21st century has  substantially reduced the size of the historic garden apartment complex.
