Metro Louisville Clubs & Organizations LCON - Louisville Coalition of Neighborhoods LCON Meeting Minutes 10Nov2005 LCON Minutes November 10, 2005 Minutes Attendance: Carolyn Franklin, Judge Paula Fitzgerald, Mary Rose Evans, Paul Schuhmann, Steve Thomas, Jackie Schaeter, Mike, Zanone, Jerelene Frazier, Pat Germany, John Greathouse and Sherri Chandler. Guest: Eddie Davis, Jennifer Oladipo, Donna Quiggins, Tom Rueff, Betty Thompson, Dick Dickerson, Melvin Ewing, Bill Mingus, Walt Hutchins. Meeting started at 6:00pm. Food was from Indi's, Kroger, and delicious deserts by Linda's sister, Dr. Priscilla Baker-Brame. Speaker - Dr. Ricky Jones Focus: Grassroots Leadership: How We lead in the 21st Century Dr. Jones, chair of Pan-African Studies at the University of Louisville, discussed African American leadership as it relates to issues faced by African Americans in Louisville. His presentation centered around 6 things he thinks African Americans need to look at: Affirmative Action - referred to Richard Dire's book. Stop blaming the victim. Stop confusing celebrity with substance. Stop narrowing individual progress. Stop refusing to look at our more powerful intellectuals. Expand focus to include policies. Participants expressed appreciation to Dr. Jones. Next meeting December 13, 2005 at the United Way Building. Bring a covered dish.
