Roosevelt High School Instrumental Music Department Jazz Ensemble Jazz Ensemble The Jazz Ensemble performs in concerts at RHS as well as in the community as the opportunity arises. Instrumentation is limited to five saxophones, four - six trumpets, four trombones and one each on piano, bass and drums. A guitar position may be filled as well. This ensemble participates in the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association State Jazz Festival and the Central Michigan University Jazz Festival. Fundamentals in sensitive listening, music theory and basic improvisation are stressed and are integral elements of the class. The underlying philosophy and purpose of this class is to develop an appreciation for and a keen interest in music, theory, form and history of jazz, America's classical music. Prerequisites Successful completion of instrumental courses in middle school. Acceptance will be granted by audition and/or assignment by the director.
