Course Objectives

Wiring fundanmentals, component assembly, NASA/DOD 2000A soldering techniques, harness making, printed circuit board loading, color code and schematics symbols.

To prepare students for minimum job entry level in the Electronics industry. The students will understand the concepts of Electronic Assembly techniques. This course wil provide the students with introduction tips on how to apply for a job, and how to sell his/her Electronic skills.

Course Outline

First Week:
Orientation, review of tools, harnessing and soldering basic printed circuit boards.

Second Week:
Wire PC boards, solder, inspect and rework. Identify three components - resistors, capacitors, and diodes. Test.

Third Week:
Assemble PC boards with components, solder, inspect and rework. Identify five additional components. Test.

Fourth Week:
Prepare stranded wire for soldering. Learn not to wick while soldering. Inspect and rework if necessary. Test.

Fifth week:
Assemble Printed Circuit board with components (check time) inspect and rework.

Sixth Week:
Wire wafer switches with stranded wire - review of NASA/DOD 2000A, soldering, inspection and rework techniques. Test.

Seventh week
Instruction of assembly and wiring of turret board. Inspect, solder, inspect and rework if necessary. Test.

Eighth Week
Indroduction of assembly and wiring of bifurcated board. Inspect and solder using NASA DOD 2000A techniques. Final inspection. Test.

Ninth Week
Assemble, wire and harness turret board. Inspect and solder using NASA DOD 2000A techniques. Inspect and rework if necessary. Test.

Tenth Week
Assemble and wire six tube socket connectors on panel. Bus all jumpers and insulate with Teflon sleeving. Wire (using #26 stranded wire),point to point wiring, inspect, solder and harness. Inspect and rework if necessary.

Eleventh Week
Assemble and wire harness turret/bifurcated board, inspect, and solder. Final inspection rework if necessary. Test.

Twelfth week
Assemble 2 sided turret board using resistors, capacitors and diodes. Inspect, solder and final inspection. rework if necessary. Test on color code and schematics.

Thirteeth week
Prepare and pigtail eight coaxial cables, four large cables and four small, add pigtail wires to all, on both ends of cables. Test.

Fourteenth Week
Wire and solder four different types of connectors -- 2 cup connectors, 1g., 1sm., flat pin connector, and hook connector. Test.

Fifteenth week
Final Printed Circuit board, assemble, wire, solder. Wire and harness. Inspect and rework if necessary.Test.

Sixteenth week
Practice interviewing. Dicuss proper dress, attitude towards good work habits and workmanship. FINAL TEST.

Attendance Policy: Three days absence will constitute an automatic drop.

Evaluation: Students will be evaluated and awarded a Certificate of Completion from Electronic Assembly and Wiring upon satisfactory performance of assigned projects, class tests, and satisfactory attendance.
