Apparel Skills

Learn to create affordable, chic fashions!

The curriculum prepares the students for employment in the apparel industry or for fulfilling their own personal needs. Instruction is provided in professional techniques of clothing construction and includes the use of trade machines, tools, and attachments. Students are taught how to shop in the wholesale industry for fabrics, hardware, and accessories. Instruction includes all aspects of garment construction.

Students will learn the following: embroidery, over-lock, buttonhole, hemming, and single needle. Each student is encouraged to keep a notebook to document sewing techniques, procedures, and sewing samples. Students will be taught how to make a flat pattern to fit his/her body, how to alter a commercial pattern, and how to assemble the garment according to industry standards.

A Certificate of Completion is awarded upon successful completion of all required coursework.

Window Treatments

Learn to create affordable, elegant window treatments!

The curriculum prepares the student for working in the interior decorating industry or for their personal needs. Instruction includes design and construction of various types of window treatments, as well as, where to purchase materials and accessories from the wholesale industry.

Students will learn the construction methods currently being used in industry. They will make individual project samples starting with design styles, color schemes, fabrics and the correct measurement techniques. “Hands on” construction of draperies, valances, pillows, bed coverings and shades is part of the instruction. Students are encouraged to attend a Window Covering Expo, view model homes, and keep a notebook to document sewing techniques, wall plans, measurements, procedures, and photos for ideas.

A Certificate of Completion is awarded upon successful completion of all required coursework.
