How We Came To Be: Summer 2004

We just happened to be at the right place at the right time, for us anyway. A development group, Urban development and a neighboring association decided to put a Private practice soccer field on our road, and claimed that all the neighbors agreed with it going in. '' WRONG''. We've lived here for 20 and 12 years, and no one asked us, and by us going door to door to all of the neighbors homes, we found out that no one knew about it.

Who's Big Idea Was this?

We began inquiring about how, when, and who. Under the Freedoms of Information Act, we were entitled to know the answers. Urban Development gave us a copy of the grant, only for us to get a portion of the grant applied for. After searching the internet, we found a copy of the grant.

So What Happens Now?

We researched every name, and address, and read the laws and rules of CDBG grants, and by the time it went before the Board of Adjustment, we pretty much knew our rights, and circulated a petition through out the neighborhood. We had many many names, and handed it to the board. We even met with the development council that was going to do this, and told them like it was, no one wanted it, or would use it. Etc. Etc. Luckily, we were heard, and played upon the legal and ill-legal points on the grant. We stood up on TRUTH, and by the Grace of God, We Won the battle.
