Woodstream East Civic Association

WECA Background

Overview of WECA

Background
The purpose of Woodstream East Civic Association (WECA) is to enhance the quality of life in the Woodstream East and help to create a sense of community. WECA was formed in April 1993 and incorporated in July 1993 as a non-profit organization. Woodstream West (west of Sunbury Road) did not want to form one Woodstream civic association. Woodstream East is divided into nine districts with each district represented by a District Representative. WECA is governed by six officers:

President
Secretary/Treasurer
Community Relations
Community Affairs
Physical Environment
Media
Services

WECA publishes a regular newsletter that contains information and events in the community. WECA coordinates a Neighborhood Blockwatch program. WECA also helps maintain the common areas at the entrances of Woodstream. In addition, WECA organizes an annual garage sale in the Spring. In general, WECA tries to promote a positive image of the community through the strength of its members.

Board Meetings

The monthly WECA Board meetings are held on the second Monday of the month, unless it is on or near a national holiday. The general membership is welcome to attend. A permanent meet place has not been established, therefore the meetings rotate among Board Member homes. Please check with your District Representative for future dates and locations.

NCC Representation

WECA is a member of the Northland Community Council (NCC). The NCC is comprised of about 20 local civic associations in the Northland area who band together to make zoning recommendations and help spread information on programs/activities to help enhance local sub-divisions. Other NCC members along Sunbury Road include Strawberry Farms, Woodstream West, Tanager Woods, and CreekRidge. NCC, which is highly respected in Columbus city government, has been involved in the Sunbury Road and I-270 expansion. The NCC meets the first Tuesday of the month at the Karl Road Library. The public is welcome to attend. If you have an interest in politics or local government, and would like to get involved in NCC, send an e-mail to the WECA Board and our NCC representative will contact you.

Dues
Annual WECA dues are $20.00. Checks made payable to the Woodstream East Civic Association and should be given to your District Representative. A membership directory is available upon membership. The civic association is only as good as the people involved.

Volunteers Needed

Civic association participation is completely voluntary; Woodstream East residents are encouraged to participate.
