Why are we our own city?

Posted in: Woodlawn Park KY

Why is Woodlawn park a seperate city from St. Matthews?  After living in both St. Matthews and Woodloawn Park, I don't see any benefit to having a seperate government.  It probably just ends up costing me more in taxes, though I haven't checked yet.  When living in a normal St. Matthews neighborhood, I saw cops patrolling more often than I see our dedicated city watchman - so that can't be the reason.  This is a serious question....why do we need to remain seperate?  Is there some law preventing us from integrating?

Thanks.

Great Question!  I believe Woodlawn Park was incorporated in 1954 as a 5th Class City and has remained such since then.  We do have a part-time Police Officer, Robert "Bob" Heaton who works approximately 30 hours per week.. I might add he is a former Jefferson County/Louisville Metro. Police Department officer now retired.

This is a good question and you may want to come to one of our Council Meetings which meet on the third Monday of the month at our City Hall located at 4327 Wingate Road.  The meeting starts at 07:30pm.

On another topic  we have another city website who you want to post any messages pertaining to our city. Most people use our new website to post messages, but I try to check the website to see if anyone has posted a messagel. Thanks!
