Snow Information Page.

This is the Woodhayven Snow Information Page.

Ive been asked by the city of charlottesville to majorly touch on some points.

  • The Snow Removal Department asks for you to PLEASE PLEASE not throw the snow you shovel from your driveway,or infront of your house into the streets. it causes the snow plows to have more to push and 99% of the time it will be thrown right back where it came from.
  • Sidewalks- If you have a sidewalk infront of your house/duplex. it is YOUR responsibility to clear the sidewalk. you have 24 hours after the last snow flake falls to clear your sidewalk before the city will start issueing wanings for anyone who has not cleared the sidewalk.  note that "clear" does NOT mean one little shovel streak down the whole sidewalk. Clear means it is wide enough for a wheel chair to travel, without issue down the sidewalk.
  • NOTE THAT IF YOU DO NOT CLEAR YOUR SIDEWALK, it IS a fine of $1000 and up to 1 year in jail. the city police will be doing sidewalk checks.

During a snow event the following rules apply:

  • If you have a driveway, please use it prior to a storm

  • It is unavoidable that the city plow truck will deposit some snow in driveway entrances. The city will not come back to clear it.

  • Unattended vehicles in travel lanes will be towed at owners expense.

  • Plowing priorities are primary streets first then secondary streets. The city cannot respond to individual calls until after the storm has passed and all routes have been satisfactorily cleared.

  • Snow plowed/shoveled from private lots may not be deposited on public sidewalks or in the street.

  • When clearing sidewalks after the storm, if possible shovel snow behind the walk, not in the street.

  • For Snow Blowers, Please Do Not Deposit Snow into the street that has been blown off of your sidewalk and or driveway.  Blow it into your yard.
  • In presence of snow, we ask for your safety. Please DO NOT use the Agnese Street Exit onto Rio Road, Due to Icy conditions. we ask that you please go around onto North Ave. and exit there at the stoplight.
  • If you have a tree down on a power line you may call Domingion VA power at 1-888-667-3000: say power outage then wait for the third option and say emergency which will connect you to a LIVE operator.
  • If a tree has fell into the road, and it has not hit powerlines, call the city of charlottesvilles Non-Emergency line at 434-977-9041  and tell them the location and status of the tree. they will then dispatch the appropriate team.
