Wingspread Neighborhood Association

(Re-cap of WS NA Meeting, August 26)

Greetings Wingspread Residents! Summer's almost over, the kids are back in school, and Wingspread Neighborhood Association is official! More on that later. Read on.

Some quick items to cover: Has everyone ordered their 2nd Big Blue Trash Bin? If not, there's still time and there's no additional cost. Just call 495--2583 or visit their website - www.blueworksforyou.com to place your order. Also, the city is increasing their Big Junk pickup days to one a month. Wingspread's Big Junk day for September is the 23rd. There will be a "Set Out Guide" mailed shortly, look for it to answer any questions about your trash questions.

Has anyone seen the TV ad that talks about leaking house plumbing pipes? Most of the homes in Wingspread used this polybutelene plumbing pipe during installation. There has been a class action settlement of this lawsuit. Some people may qualify if they have had water leaks due to plumbing. If you are interested in this issue you may get more information at www.pbpipe.com or call 800-392-7591. This settlement covers people up to 2009 for leaking plumbing problems.

Our 96th Street entrance sign has been repaired and repainted. A big "THANK YOU and WELL DONE" to Floyd Cottle and Herb Dickinson. They were able to locate the person who accidently hit the sign, locate a brick contractor to make repairs, and get the insurance company to pay the claim. Floyd supervised the repairs and then repainted the sign. Way to go guys!

Other things have been happening around the neighborhood too. Many of you may have noticed that there have been some street repairs that have been made in the addition. The city is "hearing" our issues, people are calling with problems and the city is taking action. See what happens when you organize. In May, Billy Medaris petitioned the city to place a 3-way stop at the corner of 96th and Independence. At the June Traffic Commission meeting the commission denied the petition. Debi Martin with the city council found out that the petition was disapproved because at traffic improvement study was not performed. I have spoken with Sheila Ellis with the Traffic Commission and she has agreed to put the 3-way stop petition back on the agenda in Oct. We are planning a meeting with Bob Nix, our traffic commission representative, Sheila Ellis, and councilman Jerry Foshee to explore the approval of the petition. We'll keep you informed.

Last night was our third neighborhood meeting. A vote was taken and passed unanimously to incorporate as the Wingspread Neighborhood Association. We will file the paperwork for non-profit incorporation in the next month once the papers have been completed and the officers have signed the document.

Officers were nominated and elected for the corporation. Your WS NA slate of officers are as follows: President - Mike Eaton (691-3903); Vice President - Shane LaBeth (692-8511); Treasurer - Floyd Cottle (692-9437); and Secretary - Lynn Fowler (691-0020).

The association by-laws were discussed, changes made, and voted on by those present. As soon as those changes are made to the by-laws we will post the updated by-laws on the website.

In the by-laws we have set an annual meeting for October 1 of this year. Annual dues for membership in the association have been set at $25.00 annually. Voting memberships are limited to one membership per household.

We have a number of residents who have volunteered for a Traffic Study Committee to further investigate and identify intersections that may be dangerous and need some type of signage. If you feel that there are intersections where traffic signs are needed, please call one of the association officers to give those locations.
