Barricades-39th and Clybourn

As many of you know there are barricades that block off the stub of 39th and West Clybourn Street that emptys into the public alley adjoining the Marquette Quad Park.

They were placed there as well as no parking signs being posted, to try and stop that stub of street from being an open air drug/prostitution market, and from people parking and stopping there to do other illegal things.
It was an instant success from the first week they were put into place. All activity stopped.

Keep in mind that 95% of the problems which were occuring there pre-barricades was coming from outside of the neighborhood.

There is one party that has expressed that they ''do not like'' the barricades and have said they would like them out of there.

We have tried to explain to them why they are there, now we would like to hear from you. Particularly neighbors who have been around pre and post barricades.

Maybe they will listen to neighborhood veterans, especially those who have worked so hard to improve 39th Street and the Valley Park Neighborhood and want to maintain the quiet enjoyment and safety of the neighborhood.

Keep the Barricades

I say they should stay where they are.
I noticed the street had been opened up on wednesday night(?) this week and when I came home around 3 am there were two cars stopped there with young guys in them and they were bumping music and smoking (and I don't mean cigarettes).
I was surprised to see it had been reopened.

Common Sense

I guess common sense should lend itself to this and that is leave the barricades where they sit.

I remember the hookers doin their thing there also the non-stop speedway that piece of road was. There were people flying in and out at least 40 MPH.

It is a really quiet area with the barricades up.

Barricades

Well, I sleep better and feel much safer with the barricades there.

I remember all the problems-it's an attractive nuisance without the barricades. Anyone who wants them out should have their head examined.

Why do I have a feeling that it might be a investment property owner who does not live on the block that may be who does not like the barricades?

I say if you do not live here, you have little to say because you are not here for the afterhours ''fun'' (like when the barricades are not there) and are probably in a cushy suburban home, not an urban setting where certain problems are more likely to occur.
