2002 Strengthening Neighborhoods Program Grants in Whittier

The Denver Foundation Continues Partnership with Whittier in '02

Now in its 6th year, The Denver Foundation's Strengthening Neighborhoods Program (SNP)continues its partnership with the Whittier neighborhood. Providing small grants that support resident-conceived and resident-led projects from mural painting projects to community organizing efforts to multi-cultural festivals, SNP strives to work with residents to help them use the strengths and assets already present in their community to make the neighborhood a better place to live.

The 2002 Whittier grants are as follows:

Whittier Barbecue and Neighborhood Building Committee - $67 to plan and $2,000 to support a neighborhood barbecue to strengthen relationships between the community, schools, and churches

Mile High Youth Corps - $3,300 to support the planting of hundreds of trees throughout Whittier

Madam C.J. Walker Park Committee - $5,000 to support the redesign, renaming, and rededication of this neighborhood park

Mercy Ministries - $5,000 to support the youth NeighborServe Club – a community service program linking local youth to their neighbors
