WAC Committee Chair Seeks Community Parks & Rec Facilities

Mar 22, 2004

Mayor Coleman in his most recent state of the city address announced his plan to bring a $600-million bond package to a vote by Columbus residents in November. He acknowledged that many neighborhoods are without adequate parks, school facilities, roads, sidewalks and more.

With three more Westland area residential developments approved since last June and the recent annexation of 171 acres just south of Bolton Field, some of us are feeling it's way past time for the city to put us to the top of a priority list for a community park/recreation center and more athletic fields. Land has to be purchased for these services before every suitable spot is covered with houses.

If you agree that those of us living outside I-270 need a recreation center to accommodate all ages and more athletic fields, and if you are willing to rally support and work on a plan to keep this issue before the city in every way possible, please contact the Westland Area Commission, Recreation and Parks Committee Chair, Jo Ellen Locke, 878-6004.

If we do nothing the city will continue to neglect us. Working together we have a chance to be heard.
