Two-Way Traffic Comes to West Saint Catherine!

Feb 01, 2002

2/1/02: Mayor Armstrong announced at today's press conference the first step in opening West Saint Catherine Street to two-way traffic: the removal of all parking restriction signs. Mayor Armstrong cited increased pedestrian presence as a principal reason for the change in traffic pattern. The change will re-emphasize that we are (and have always been) a residential community.

The Mayor further promised that our street will become two-way prior to Derby Day 2002, with further plans for Oak Street to be converted to two-way traffic by Derby Day 2003.

The Mayor is well aware that the West Saint Catherine NA has long strived to achieve its vision for a truly urban and residential community. As residents, we appreciate the tremendous positive impact the implementation of two-way traffic will make for us. With two-way traffic, we can anticipate slower moving vehicles on West Saint Catherine Street and fewer accidents at our intersections. Slower traffic and parking on both sides of the street will discourage truck traffic on our historic throughfare. A slower and safer street will certainly go a long way in promoting our sense of community as well as our sense of pride.

Thanks to Mayor Armstrong, and to all the neighbors who worked tirelessly to make two-way traffic in Old Louisville a reality!!
