West Rudisill Street Diet

West Rudisill Reconfigured to include bike lanes

See Mayor Henry's announcement at http://www.cityoffortwayne.org/index.php/content/view/2175/634/

Jim Sack, President, sent this email to all WRNA members who are on the email list.
Rudisill proposal:
• Bike lanes in both directions of Rudisill from Foster Park to McMillen Park.
• With the exception of the pavement between Clinton and Lafayette streets, Rudisill would go on a “road diet.” It would be reduced from two through-lanes in each direction to one through-lane each way, bike lanes on either side and a center turn lane. This change in traffic creates a win-win by improving safety for drivers and bicyclists.
• This project has been submitted for stimulus funding for repavement of Rudisill, allowing for an easy addition of bike lanes.

I asked Ken Nicolet just this morning when we might expect work to begin. Last word was that the city had no money for the project, but was seeking stimulus dollars. The street director said it was a priority of his and it will be done.  Rachel Blakeman, an information officer for the city said it would be done during the bicycling season, then add people bike here all year long.  We will continue to push on that.
