Trolley Lines

Posted in: W Highland
I recently moved into the neighborhood. I have become aware of Denver's extensive system of trolleys--now all gone. I understand that the trolley systems was important to the West Highland neighborhood. Many of the business and retail areas of our neighborhoods off major feeder roads(32nd and Lowell, Tennyson Street) make a lot of sense when you envision the trolley lines that extended past them.

A major trolley line extended up from Downtown, west on 32nd Street to Perry, North on Perry to 35th Street, 35th Street west to Tennyson, Tennyson north to 46th Street, 46th Street west to Lakeside. A return loop travelled from Lakeside east to Yates, Yates south to 41st Street, 41 Street East to Tennyson.

Recently an old trolley line rail has become exposed on Tennyson near 35th Street.

Does anyone have memories or information they'd like to share about this unique part of our neighborhood history?

If you walk in to merkles auto across the street from  the original elithes garden location, on the wall you will see the history you are looking for.

There are a few very detailed books on the subject as well..  Authored by Don Robertson
