One of the problems we face in our current foyer is getting information out to members and visitors and having a place for them to sign up for materials or participation in events and activities. I believe a large, centrally located, highly visible ''Welcome Desk'' would be a great asset. A couple of friendly greeters could staff it each week. It needs drawers or slots to hold various information pamphlets and flyers (adult classes, youth program info, membership info, MOMs group, 55-Speeders calendar, small groups info, etc. etc.) for visitors. The desk could also function as the place for members to go to get the same info and to sign up for participation in small groups, sign pledge cards, pick up new directories, volunteer to help with the nursery, turn in prayer requests, etc. etc. etc. There's a 1,000 uses for such a place. Right now we have 9 different publications distributed haphazardly around our foyer. That doesn't include card & prayer sheets, financial reports, pew sheets, and other info that's on the tract rack across from the office. Oh, and don't forget a place for people to pick up their sermon tapes/cds/dvds. Since the new foyer is a long way from the office we'll need to have these items displayed and easily accessible, so a tract rack and bulletin board would also be helpful.
The larger we get the more we have going on and the more challenged we are to communicate with both members and guests. If we don't plan for it now, we'll wind up with stuff displayed on every flat surface and nobody will know where to find anything. Just like now.
For the future... It wouldn't hurt to have a computer with wireless network access and a telephone at this desk.
