Do You Appreciate the BWCA Snow Plowing?

We want your vote. If the majority of BWCA dues paying residents would rather not have the BWCA hire a private snow plow, then we must wait patiently for the City to plow our neighborhood. By contracting a private snow plow, we can have streets plowed as soon as the snow accumulates 3+ inches. We also plow curb to curb on all streets and courts. The City of Columbus priorities are:

Priority 1: Freeway system (ODOT is responsible for I-71, I-70, I-670 and I-270)

Priority 2: Arterial streets (Example: Morse Road)

Priority 3: Collector residential streets (Examples: Broadview Rd, Cherrybottom Rd, etc.)

Priority 4: Residential streets(Plowed only after four inches of snow are on the ground and after freeways, arterials and collector residential streets have been plowed).

When the City of Columbus does plow residential streets after at least four inches of snow have fallen: The goal is to make residential streets passable. They do not plow down to bare pavement & residential streets are not plowed the entire curb-to-curb width.

Because every storm is different, there is no standard or set time span for the Snow Warriors to plow Columbus streets. Long, uninterrupted snow falls require freeways, arterial and collector streets to be plowed and/or treated repeatedly until the snow stops. These long, uninterrupted snowfalls that drop more than four inches of snow will affect how soon the Snow Warriors can begin to plow residential streets. Colder temperatures, wind, and cloudy conditions after a storm effect this, also.

The City of Columbus/Department of Public Service does not plow / treat specific streets upon requests by residents. The 311 Customer Service Center is unable to provide estimates as to when a specific street will be plowed and treated. Streets, including residential streets, are plowed in a systematic order. As Columbus has more than 200,000 private driveways, moving plowed snow from private driveway aprons would add weeks to each plowing effort.

Likewise, our private snow plow is only hired to plow the streets curb to curb and does not have time to focus on individual driveways. It is the residents job to clear snow away AFTER the plow has cleared the street. The snow plow company is hired with a contract, and they have other contracts from businesses and residents and do not have a specific time period that they are hired to clear our neighborhood.

The main reason for this article, is that several residents flooded a community volunteer with complaints on his home phone. Residents DO NOT have the right to harass a volunteer, just because they are part of the civic association.

First of all, everyone deserves respect! We can all be difficult to deal withat times. Depending on the circumstances and our own perspectives, we can be childish, rude, or even uncouth. The key is to think first; instead of simply reacting when we are upset. Thoughtful comments will do more to help identify the problem. Let’s break the negative behavior patterns that don’t do any good.

So, we are asking you to voice your thoughts, politely; either on our Facebook Group page or our website listed below. Go to Discussions. ?”

I really do appreciate the snow plowing.  They do a pretty darn good job and I would hate to see us not have this contractor.  I believe we get a pretty good bang for the buck.

We think the plowing is very very necessary.  On Christmas eve afternoon our Fed Ex driver gave me an earful as to why I had not called the city because our court was soooo bad??? Can you imagine what it would be if we didn't have the extra plowing?  We are FOR.
