Halloween Safety Tips
Trick-or-Treating:
Make sure a responsible adult or teen accompanies each group of children.
Carry a flashlight.
Stay in your own neighborhood, avoiding houses that don't have the porch light on. It's best to go to the homes of people you know.
Never enter a stranger's home or car, even if invited.
Stay on sidewalks when possible. Look both ways before crossing the street.
Use reflector patches or stripes on costumes to make yourself visible to traffic.
Secure all loose sleeves or pant legs, belts, ties, masks and hats so that they are comfortable and allow room for movement without restriction.
Trick-or-treat bags and props should be simple and easy to carry.
Wait until a trusted adult has examined the candy before eating.
Throw away any open pre-packaged treats and anything that is unwrapped.
If harmful items are found notify your local law enforcement agency.
Plan your route before you leave and make sure a parent or adult knows where you are going.

For Parents:
Encourage children not to enter a stranger's home by never inviting
trick-or-treaters into your home.
Know the adult accompanying your children and make sure to ask them
who else is in the group and exactly where they will be going to
trick-or-treat.
Leave your porch light on so children will know they can come to your
door.
Keep your pets inside to prevent any injury to them or others.
