Village Of Valleyview

YOUR FAMILY’S SAFETY IS ENDANGERED

Mar 02, 2003

The Village Police coverage has been reduced 80% because the Village does not have the money to pay the officers, and there is no end in sight. This is serious, no it is not politics, it is not a disagreement between a few people, it is not a control for power issue, what it is, is a matter of your safety, your family?’s safety, your property values and it is a matter of whether the Village of Valleyview remains.

Residents it is time for you to stop sitting on the sidelines and waiting for a few to save the Village. The Village will soon be bankrupt and we will have no police protection, without police protection this Village is nothing. As Officer Roger Myers put it: ?“Once the word gets out the Village has no police protection it will be like Christmas eve to the criminals on the other side of the tracks. The criminals will be in Village overnight; stealing, damaging property and endangering your family?’s safety.?”

When Council and mayor were asked to reduce their pay, as the officers did, to get though this crisis the request fall on deaf ears. When the Council was asked, ?“will you take no pay for awhile to help the police department??” Some of the responses were as follows: Council member Robert Graves ?“No, I?’m keeping mine?”, Council member Sue Huber ?“I?’ll have to think about it?” and the best is from mayor Graves ?“Big whoop-de-do if missing 5 meeting?’s pay is going to help the police department?”. Note: Council member Paul Parrish has not and will not accept payment for his services, we need more members which are on Council as a community services with true concern for the Village and not working for their own agendas and think of the Village finances as their personal endless checkbook. Council member Judy O?’Brien is also not accepting pay while serving on the council.

mayor Graves?’ salary is $12,600, the Fiscal Officer?’s is $10,020. Council members get paid $50.00 each for every regular, special or committee meeting they attend, whether or not they accomplish anything. The police that protect our Village, your family, and your life and put their life on the line every day for you get paid $8.54 to $9.54 per hour. If the mayor donated her salary back to the Village you would be protected, or your family would be protected and your property value would not be GREATLY reduced. mayor Grave does nothing for her $12,600 but the Police would.
