JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT CLASSES TAUGHT AT VILLAGE MEADOW

Junior achievement is a non-profit organization financed by businesses, foundations, and individuals. The purpose of Junior Achievement program is to educate and inspire young people to value free enterprise, business and economics to improve the quality of their lives. The topics taught included identifying zones within a city, how buildings are designed/built, opening a restaurant, writing for a newspaper, and performing basic banking tasks. One of the classes that had the opportunity to participate in this program was Mrs. Sarie?’s Third Grade Class. At the end of the six-week program, the children were asked to write a brief paragraph of what they learned and how Junior Achievement impacted them.
Week One - Inside a City. Junior Achievement was a great learning experience. We learned that a a city is a place where people live, work, play and go to school. We also learned what a zone is. A city planner is someone who decides what types of buildings should go where in the city. Zones are needed in schools, businesses, and citied to help them all run smoothly.
Week Two - Building Cities. Junior Achievement was a great learning experience. Our Junior Achievement teacher, Ms. Frew, taught us a lot about building a city with a blueprint. We also learned how to read and use a blueprint. Builders use blueprints so they make buildings of good quality.
Week Three - Restaurant. Junior Achievement was a great learning experience. Restaurant owners have to make important decisions to make sure their restaurant is a success. Restaurants are in a business and multi-purpose zones. Restaurants can be in many zones. Restaurants should have people whom are hired that like to work in customer services.
Week Four - Field Trip to Sonic. Junior Achievement was a great learning experience! One week we all got to see inside of Sonic, a restaurant. We learned how onion rings were made. The freezer was 36 degrees below zero. We learned that Sonic puts all their soda in a bag and the soda comes through the tube and in the machine that make it soda. We had lunch there and had a great time.
