Q: When you call 911 on your cell phone in LA City, who answers?

A: The LA sheriff.

. . .and it may take as long as 10 minutes for you to get transferred to the LA Police, if that is whom you wish to reach.

To avoid this problem, you can use your CELL phone to call the front desk of our Pacific Division Community Police Station at 310-482-6334. Start by saying: "Reporting a Crime In Progress", if that applies.

Using a REGULAR phone to call 911 in an emergency will connect you to the LAPD.
