Ven-Mar NA Meeting on December 7, 2004

Mar 24, 2005

The meeting, held in the Library of the Walgrove Avenue Elementary School, was about the ?“Temporary?” Traffic Calming Measures in effect for about four years, since the Costco Warehouse came to the western end of Culver City, on Washington Blvd. The affected area is to the west and north of the Costco complex. Flyers had been distributed in that area, inviting residents to the meeting.

In attendance at the meeting were the LA DOT engineer Clive Grawe and Sammy Romo, Culver City traffic engineer.

It soon developed that the area residents were not interested in reviewing the details of the project. It was recalled that the plans for this project, developed by the Culver City traffic department, had been reviewed by a residents committee some years ago. The plans were the considered by the community and a final version approved. The consensus of the meeting was that these previously approved plans needed to be implemented without delay. Sammy Romo explained that the project had been delayed ?– at least in part - by a change of Culver City personnel, that he had recently taken over responsibility for Culver City?’s traffic engineering, but was short of manpower.

Sammy Romo explained that a Permit from the LA City Engineering Department was required, before he could formally ask the Culver City Council, which held the Costco money set aside for the project, to approve inviting bids for the work. In order to obtain the Permit, the plans have to satisfy LA Engineering?’s previously expressed requirements. He agreed to expedite the project.
