Ven-Mar Neighborhood Association

Ven-Mar NA Meeting on October 12, 2004

Oct 15, 2004

The meeting was chaired by Alex Utas who gave a brief history of Ven-Mar NA, going back to 2001, when the organization started out as the Walgrove Area Neighborhood Association (WANA).
The activities of the Neighborhood Development Committee, chaired by Rick Brown, resulted in major improvements of the campus of the Walgrove Elementary School, which are about completed.

Among other Ven-Mar achievements are our participation in successful community struggles to reject the proposed installation of cell phone antenna towers in two locations in our area and the planting of sapling trees along Palms Blvd. between Walgrove and Centinela. That stretch of Palms Blvd has also been re-striped for greater safety at the instigation of our Trees-on-Palms Committee chaired by Deena Stein. Mention was made of our good relations with the Walgrove Area Action Group (WAAG) chaired by Nancy Swaim, with which we have run joint meetings. WAAG takes credit for getting DOT to stripe Walgrove Avenue, improve traffic management and install speed flash boards on this busy road.

In discussing our activities concerning Walgrove Elementary and our cooperation with the Friends of Walgrove organization, the regrettable absence of any relationships with the other schools in our area was mentioned.

It was agreed that the Association Bylaws approved at the Ven-Mar meeting on July 3, 2002 (- see notes on that meeting below), be revisited at our next meeting.

The developer's latest proposal for Lincoln Center was reviewed by Sharon Commins, who urged that residents comply without delay with Kevin Keller's request for written comments. Kevin is our LA City Councilwoman's Planning Deputy, who chaired the October 2 meeting at which the developer's proposal was presented to the public.
