The Red Cross / Madison Park Fire Campaign

Posted in: Madison Park

Madison Park Community,

We have the fortunate opportunity to participate in the American Red Cross Home Fire Campaign.  The American Red Cross launched our Home Fire Campaign in October 2014, with three primary goals:

·         Reduce home fire deaths and injuries by 25 percent by the end of 2019;

·         Increase the number of home fire responses by 10 percent by the end of 2019; and

·         Improve client assistance we provide to home fire victims.

The Red Cross accomplishes these goals through the installation, at no cost, of 10-year smoke alarms in homes through the work of our volunteers.  These alarms do not require battery changes, but only monthly tests.  Volunteers will canvass the neighborhood to complete installs and the homeowner need only provide access and some basic information. The volunteers will install the alarms or replace the batteries, remove the old alarms for proper disposal, and in ten years the American Red Cross will contact the homeowner to install a new alarm.

Since the beginning of the program the American Red Cross has installed over one million alarms and has documented over 400 lives saved!

The residents of  Madison Park can expect a group of 3 to 4 person teams to canvass the neighborhood, visiting homes, offering to install new fire alarms, assisting with suggestions of   an escape plan and providing information on fire safety.

Mark your calendars for Saturday, November 17, 2018 as the American Red Cross volunteers  offer assistance in making Madison Park a safer community.

Thanks for the information!
