Illiff / Vassar Storm Drain

General Information

Start: October 21, 2004

Duration:  180 calendar days

End: April 21, 2005.

The cost of the drain under construction now is about $703,500 based on the actual low-bid and change orders to date.

I spoke with Pat Kennedy this morning.  Following construction, any related curb and gutter repairs will be done by Pat Kennedy's curb and gutter repair contract and then in 2005, Street Maintenance will do a "chip seal" on Iliff (from Grant to Colorado). Chip seal involves putting down a tack-coat, angular crushed rock and a seal coat to restore the friction on the driving surface.

As we discussed, in 2005 we will be building 2 "lateral" drains that will collect runoff and tie into the drain now under construction:

1.  One will be built starting at the new drain at Clayton and Vassar and go east two blocks to Milwaukee.  We anticipate this will be done with "in-house" crews.

2.  The second will start at Clayton and Harvard, go east in Harvard to Milwaukee, then north in Milwaukee to Wesley, then east in Wesley to Adams.  We anticipate this one will be advertised for bids.

All together, the current drain and the two additional drains to be built in 2005 will cost an estimated $1.2 million.

2003 General Storm Sewer Improvements
Dear Resident:

The City and County of Denver and Tierdael Construction Company have entered into a contractual agreement to build a installation and replacement of storm sewer. The project will begin at the intersection of Clayton Street and Vassar Avenue and will proceed to Clayton Street and Iliff Avenue, and then proceed to Iliff Avenue and Jackson Street. Construction will begin on October 21, 2004, and is scheduled to take approximately 180 calendar days, ending on or before April 21, 2005. The existing asphalt along the route will be milled, the pipeline installed, and new asphalt will be placed. During the construction, traffic control devices will be in place to close the aforementioned streets to all but local traffic. You should be aware that there will be open excavations and caution should be used in the vicinity of the excavations and construction operations. In this regard, we will make every effort to ensure safety, reduce construction noise, and control traffic.
