T-Rex Information for 8.20.04

20 August 2004 T-Rex Update

* Crews are still working in the middle section of I-25 between the southbound and northbound lanes from Logan to Franklin, doing drainage and preparing to pave.  This work will happen both day and night.
* Aug 23 - S. Buchtel is scheduled to reopen.
* Aug 29 - University Blvd will be closed for the day beginning at 7 am and re-opening by 9 p.m. for the demolition of the temporary I-25 bridge over University.  The University southbound off and on ramps will also be closed.
* Aug 29 - There will lane closures on Colorado Blvd at night for girders to be set over the light rail tunnel.  There may be other lane closures in advance of this to prepare.
* Aug 30 - Evans Avenue will be reduced to one lane in each direction over the I-25 bridge.  It will be in this configuration for about a month and then there will be 2 lanes going westbound and one lane eastbound until the end of the year.  These closures are required for paving, curb & gutter, and sidewalk work
* Aug 22-24 - The north portion of the Hampden Avenue Bridge will be demolished.  The demolition will require the closure of southbound I-25 from Santa Fe to Hamden and northbound I-25 will be closed at Hampden, the detour will be to exit at Hampden, cross over the intersection and re-enter NB I-25 at the Hampden on-ramp.  Hampden will remain open during the demolition.
* Construction of the soundwall between DTC Boulevard and Yosemite Street along northbound I-225 is continuing and the frontage road between DTC Boulevard and Yosemite Street will remain closed for another few weeks. Work on the soundwall along southbound I-225 at Yosemite is also continuing.
* Construction on soundwalls along southbound I-225 is beginning along Quincy Avenue and between Quebec Street and Quincy Avenue.
* Construction of the light rail bridge over Ulster Street is continuing, so expect closures on Ulster Street at night.
* Aug 20-22 & 27-30 - The southbound I-225 to southbound I-25 ramp will be closed to put into place for three new light rail bridges in the interchange. This ramp will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 20, to 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 22. and again from 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 27, to 5:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 30. While this ramp is closed, southbound I-225 motorists should exit at DTC Boulevard and travel south to Belleview Avenue, then west on Belleview Avenue to I-25.
* Week August 30 - Overnight closures of the southbound I-225 to southbound I-25 ramp are scheduled for 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. each night so deck forms can be put into place for these new bridges. While this ramp is closed, southbound I-225 motorists should exit at DTC Boulevard and travel south to Belleview Avenue, then west on Belleview Avenue to I-25.
* There will be continuing work along I-225 in the Yosemite Street area and the bridge over the Cherry Creek Spillway.
* Roadway milling and asphalt paving work continues on I-25 between Belleview Avenue and Lincoln Avenue is still on going. This nighttime activity consists of removing old asphalt from the roadway, paving new asphalt and placing permanent lane striping. Between Dry Creek Road and Lincoln Avenue, crews will be paving an asphalt overlay. This work will require various overnight lane and ramp closures throughout the summer along northbound and southbound I-25 between Belleview Avenue and Lincoln Avenue on Sunday through Thursday nights beginning at 8:30 p.m. Motorists should anticipate uneven roadway surfaces and exercise caution when traveling between Belleview Avenue and Lincoln Avenue.
* Aug 27-29 - Eastbound Belleview Avenue will be closed for the weekend for drainage work.  The closure will begin on Friday night at 7 p.m. and continue through Monday morning at 5:30 a.m.
* Aug 28-29 - There will be drainage work in the intersection of Yosemite Street and Caley Avenue that will require lane closures.
* There are frequent closures on the ramps and the arterials in T-REX south for paving, landscape wall work and work on the light rail bridges. (Check the web site for the most current info.)
* Aug 22 - The northbound I-25 to C-470 ramp will be closed from 1 a.m. to 5:30 a.m. for paving work. Motorists should continue on to Dry Creek Road and re-enter southbound I-25 to C-470.

26 July 2004 T-Rex Update

I will be out of town until the week of Aug 16, 2004, so here is an outline of the types of construction activities to look for over the next few weeks.  Check the web site or the information hotline for the most current information. I will be back on a weekly e-mail schedule Aug 20, 2004---Until then----

* Crews will be working in the middle section between the southbound and northbound lanes from Logan to Franklin removing the old pavement, excavating to the new grade and hauling.  This work will happen both day and night.
* S. Buchtel will remain in a 1 lane in each direction configuration from Franklin to University for reconstruction work in front of the new park-n-Ride structure.
* There will lane closures on Colorado Blvd at night for work on the light rail tunnel.
* Traffic will be shifting to the new bridge on the south side of Hampden on Aug 15. The demolition of the north portion of the bridge will be Aug 24-26.  The demolition will require the closure of I-25 in both directions from Santa Fe to Hamden.  Hampden will remain open during the demolition.
* Construction of the soundwall between DTC and Yosemite along northbound I-225 is continuing and the frontage road between DTC and Yosemite will remain closed for another few weeks. 
* Construction of the light rail bridge over Ulster is continuing, so expect closures on Ulster at night.
* Girders will be set for the light rail bridges over the southbound I-225 to southbound I-25 ramp in the middle of August.  This work will require weekend closures of this ramp. (Look for more information in Tracking T-REX on 8/6/04.)
* There will be continuing work along I-225 in the Yosemite area and the bridge over the Cherry Creek Spillway.

25 June 2004 T-Rex Update

Here is a list of various T-REX activities scheduled for the coming days...

* The Broadway on-ramp to southbound I-25 will close for about 3 weeks starting in the middle of July. Motorists will be directed to enter southbound I-25 at Alameda.
* Concrete paving continues on the southbound lanes between Logan and University. This work is done at night.
* I-25 in both directions will be closed from 1 a.m. to 5:30 a.m. some nights next week for crews to stain the new bridges in the narrows. The usual detour will be in place.
* The Franklin Street Bridge will remain closed until early July for tie-in work with S. Buchtel and wall work.
* S. Buchtel will remain in a 1 lane in each direction configuration from Franklin to University for reconstruction work in front of the new park-n-Ride structure until early July. Parking on the south side of S. Buchtel will be limited.
* Drainage work on Mexico east of Colorado Blvd will continue, but Mexico will re-open to two-way traffic before the 4th of July holiday pending weather.
* There will lane closures on Colorado Blvd at night for work on the light rail tunnel.
* Sunday June 27 - Colorado Blvd of-ramp from southbound I-25 will be closed for grading work.
* Sunday June 27 - Evans Ave off-ramp from northbound I-25 will be closed for grading work.
* Early Monday & Tuesday mornings, June 28 & 29, I-25 will be closed to shift traffic onto the new concrete pavement under Evans Ave. The closures will begin at 1 a.m. and all lanes will re-open by 5:30 a.m. Northbound I-25 will be closed on Monday morning and southbound I-25 will be closed on Tuesday morning. The detour will be Santa Fe to Hampden.
* Week of June 28, Hampden on-ramp to southbound will be shifted to allow more workspace for bridge reconstruction and light rail tunnel construction. Crews will be working on the retaining walls in that area. The ramp will become longer and merge with southbound I-25 farther south than it currently does.
* Construction of the soundwall between DTC and Yosemite along northbound I-225 is continuing and the frontage road between DTC and Yosemite will remain closed for another couple of months. There will be closures on the DTC on-ramp to northbound I-225 next week as part of this work.
* Light rail bridge work continues at Ulster and may require nighttime lane closures on Ulster
