Neighborhood News

Iuka Ravine Association has been meeting regularly since spring. A concern has been the addition of a party deck to one of the apartment buildings on the ravine, without a required
plan review, building permits or a certificate of appropriateness from the Historic Resources Commission. Nearly a dozen members attended the Building Commission hearing in June
where the city?’s orders to the landlord were upheld.

At Indianola Forest monthly meetings the agenda items were trash pick up, a concern that residential homeownership is decreasing and a warning about burglaries and break ins of
homes and cars on Lane and Waldeck. Quarterly clean ups are planned, a neighborhood
watch was mentioned, and a plan to increase resident homeownership was proposed.

Holy Name Parish at Patterson and Adams is welcoming the parishioners of Parroquia
Santa Cruz to share the church and buildings. Spanish language Masses will be celebrated
at 5:00 p.m Saturdays and 12:30 p.m. Sundays. The old Holy Name School which had been
the Family Center is now a parish Center for the people of Santa Cruz. The University District
has a diverse population with many people from many lands. Until recently the Latin
American countries were not well represented here. We welcome them. Bienvenidos, amigos.

The Family Center which had been housed at Holy Name School has moved to the Maynard Avenue United Methodist Church at 2350 Indianola Avenue.
