United to End Violence

The Bullied and The Bullies

Bully No More Guidelines

"No bullying" should be part of all school guidelines. There should be laid out rules and "No exception" consequences.

All media outlets, youth organizations, schools, need to have youth advocates. Youth advocates should be the students, parents, educators, clergy, law enforcement and others.

Teach all children to ask for help. If a child is having problems with bullying, the child should go first to the parent if there is no immediate danger. If the parent is not assessable, the child should seek the adult in authority immediately. The child should be taught to expect immediate relief. The adults should have guidelines which will be followed. The child should be removed from the environment if necessary. The bully definitely will be removed.

We all must get involved. We all must become proactive when it comes to (not only youth violence) violence.

Schools must provide materials to encourage students to come to school to learn. Parents must encourage students to learn at home as well as school. Churches must share material regarding learning and sharing and caring. Media must dedicate more programming to promote non-violence attitudes. Media must focus on learning rather than discussions "after the fact". We know what we are doing is not working. So we must change how we do it today and we will see change tomorrow. Proactive involvement will get the job done.

Parenting and Bullying

I'm a parent who would not expect my child (nor any child I know) to try and handle a bullying situation. I believe a child seeks first to resolve an act of bullying. The child quickly realizes when the problem is beyond what they can resolve.

This is a main reason for constant parental involvement. The parent knows when the child is happy and not happy. The parent then must act on the bullying, not the child.

THE BULLY / PARENTS OF

The age of the child does not matter. Bullying should never be tolerated. If it's not my child it is someone’s child being bullied. The child who bullies should not be allowed to control. Contact the parent of the bully. The bullying should stop immediately or the bully then is not allowed back in that school. Maybe in another school, the bully will not exhibit bullying tactics. Therapy might help, but the child being bullied cannot afford to wait for a positive therapy outcome.
