Tyson - Klondike - Mamaroneck - Greenwich Block Watch

Most complained about issues in our Block Watch

Noise, barking dogs, loose cats, sidewalks, speeders

Sometimes knowing what others are complaining about helps us identity behaviors we were not aware of that irritate others.

1.) NOISE!!!

-- Noise from dumpsters being emptied from 2 - 4 a.m. over at St. Martha's or from their Church bells ringing out tunes during the day.

Action: Since there is a Noise Curfew from midnight until 6 a.m. I called Industrial Recovery (638-9000) about the noise that they create from 2 – 4:30 a.m. while picking up garbage at Saint Martha’s. They refuse to cooperate. So far, the police have not enforced this ordinance as they should.

However, Saint Martha’s has reduced the volume of their church bell by about 50%. Thanks to them for being so kind.

-- Loud music from cars

Action: This is another ordinance that apparently has "no teeth."

2.) Barking dogs (especially dogs that are barking pass 10 p.m. or as early as 6 a.m.) and cats running free (sometimes this is the reason why the dogs are barking excessively). Additionally, cats frequently kill birds and small animals just of fun. I can definitely say that this behavior is distressing to see! Then, there is the carcass. Please try to work this out with your neighbors as Animal Control & Protection suggests that method first, before calling them to cite the owner(s).

3.) Dangerous sidewalks or blocked sidewalks

There are a number of area residents in wheelchairs or using motorized vehicles or walkers, as well as families using strollers or children on bikes, which use our sidewalks. Please help them by keeping your sidewalks free of debris (small sticks, gravel, mud, water, toys, etc.) and by not blocking the sidewalks with cars.

If your sidewalk needs repair (or is uneven or is underwater when it rains) call CityCALL (574-3333) to see about getting your sidewalk replaced free of charge.

4.) Speeders and total lack of police presence in the area

Action: This is a constant problem with no remedy since most people are not willing to pay more taxes in order to get more police officers!
